Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Launches 3 Online Platforms to Boost Power Sector Efficiency

Union Minister on 20 August 2024 Lovely Red KhattarMinistry of Power launched three online platforms: Portal for online monitoring of projects – Thermal (ready), Disaster Resilient Infrastructure for Power Sector (filled) and online portal for monitoring survey and investigation activities of hydropower projects and pumped storage projects (Hydropower DPR) Enhancing the efficiency, transparency and effectiveness of the power sector.

  • He also initiated a program Detailed Collection of Central Electricityctricity australiaThority (CEA) Rules Notified by CEA under Electricity Act, 2003.

Portal for Online Monitoring of Projects – Thermal (PROMPT):

I.PROMPT is a centralized platform Real-time tracking and analytics of thermal power projects.

Second. It enhances transparency, accountability and resource optimization in project management.

iii.Its purpose is Reduce the time and cost escalation, ensuring efficient project execution and meeting power demand reasonable prices,

Disaster Resilient Infrastructure for Power Sector (DRIPS):

I.The DRIPS Portal enables quick identification and deployment of resources to address disruptions in the power sector during disasters such as cyclones, earthquakes and floods. developed by CEAIt is aligned with India Disaster Resource Network (IRNT).IDRN) and hosted on National Electricity PortalCovers generation, transmission and distribution.

Second. It connects designated nodal officers of power sector departments and agencies in the affected areas, thereby helping in speedy power restoration.

iii.DRIPS acts as a single contact point To manage the inventory of essential power system equipment and supplies, critical to emergency response.

Fourth.Preparing a disaster resource inventory is essential to protect lives, property and critical services, thereby enhancing the resilience and effectiveness of the power sector’s disaster response.

Hydropower DPR:

I.Online portal for monitoring survey and investigation activities of hydropower projects and pumped storage projects (Hydropower DPR) is a major initiative by CEA To support the development of hydropower and pumped storage projects (PSP) in India.

  • Notably, 11 Combined Capacity Hydroelectric Projects 9 GW (Giga Watt) and 39 PSP 100 MW power projects with a capacity of 57 GW are currently under survey and investigation.

Second. It plays a vital role in enhancing grid stability and providing balanced power during energy transformation.

iii. This portal provides an overview of improving project development, management and coordination during preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).DPR, reducing timelines for evaluation and approval.

Compendium of CEA Regulations:

The CEA collection of regulations outlines regulations covering grid standards, technical requirements, safety measures, and more. It provides a robust framework for the generation, transmission, distribution, and trading of electricity across the country.

key points:

I.It establishes guidelines for grid operation and maintenance, including standards for voltage, frequency, and system security, and the integration of diverse energy sources.

Second.Technical requirements have been laid down for connecting generating stations, including renewable energy sources, to the grid, to ensure stability and smooth integration.

iii. This collection also includes Safety Standards For construction, operation and maintenance of power plants and lines, including recent amendments to safety audits and early warning systems in hydropower projects.

Fourth. This ensures flexible operation of coal based thermal power plants. Minimum power level: 40%Providing support to the grid as the use of renewable energy increases.

Metering practices have been standardized to ensure accurate billing, reliability and transparency in the power sector.

VIt is mandatory to submit data related to power generation, transmission and distribution so that CEA will monitor and analyse the performance of the power sector.

Sixth.Communication system standards have been established to increase the operational efficiency of the electric grid through improved data transfer and communications technology. real time monitoring,

Specifications are outlined for the design, construction, and maintenance of power plants and lines, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Recent related news:

I.Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL) has launched the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar, Tata Power Ke Sang’ initiative in Varanasi to promote residential rooftop solar solutions (RTS) in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Second. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a long-term local currency loan agreement with France-based ENGIE Group to build and operate a 400 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat, India.

About this Central Electricity Authority (CEA):
It was established in 1951 as a part-time body and became a full-time body in 1975. The functions and duties of the CEA are described under Section 73 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
