First-Ever National Space Day - 23 August 2024

First National Space Day (NSPD) is celebrated all over India 23 August 2024 to commemorate the achievement of Chandrayaan-3 Mission, Launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

  • Chandrayaan-3 mission achieved a safe and soft landing of the Vikram lander and deployed the Pragyan rover on the lunar surface near the Moon’s south pole on 21 September 2014. 23 August 2023,
  • With this achievement, India became Fourth Country First to land on the Moon, and the first to land near the Moon’s south polar region.

2024 NSPD Theme:

The 2024 theme of the NSPD is, “Touching Lives by Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga.,

The theme for the year 2024 emphasizes the societal and technological benefits of space exploration.

Objective of the day:

The aim of NSPD is to inspire youth towards space science and technology and its applications.

It highlights India’s notable space mission achievements and showcases advancements in space technology.

The day raises public awareness about the importance and benefits of space exploration and promotes national pride and unity.

In August 2023The Indian government announced 23 August As each year National Space Dayto mark the remarkable success of Chandrayaan-3 Mission,

The announcement was made during Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s meeting with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) Mission Control Facility (MCF) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

It was also proposed to celebrate the festival at all India level in August 2024 and organize a one day conference/workshop/exhibition which will be space IdeathonEvents to promote innovative ideas will be organized in universities/colleges ahead of the NSPD 2024 celebrations.

2024 events:

Government of India (Go) has launched a Month-long campaign During July and August 2024, to mark the inauguration of the NSPD 2024.

To commemorate the NSPD 2024, a grand event including high-level sessions, panel discussions and cultural programmes was organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on 23 August 2024.

space Project on Wheels:

The Space on Wheels project is a collaborative and unique initiative and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between ISRO and science organization Vigyan Bharati (VIBHA) on January 24, 2023.

The project involves mobile exhibition buses visiting universities and colleges during NSPD celebrations.

The primary objective of this project is to disseminate information about ISRO’s activities and capabilities in deployment of rockets, satellites etc. and India’s space missions to school students across India.

The mobile exhibition showcased models of the first two launch pads, Chandrayaan mission and interactive displays.

ISRO Space Tutors:

ISRO’s 120 registered space instructors conduct outreach programmes such as talks, quizzes and exhibitions across India to promote space education.

Indian space Hackathons:

The national level hackathon organised by ISRO and innovation partner Hack2Skill encourages innovative solutions in space technology, with top students getting an opportunity for internship at ISRO.

The top 3 winners of the hackathon had the opportunity to showcase their applications during the NSPD 2024 ceremony.

ISRO Robotics Challenge:

ISRO Robotics Challenge- U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) (IROCYou), a student space robotics challenge, was launched on November 8, 2023.

IROC-U 2024 Offers students innovative solutions in space robotics, with the tagline “Let’s build a space robot.”

Other programs:

Fisheries Department (the dof) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) organized seminars and demonstrations on “Application of space technologies in fisheries sectorThe survey is being conducted in the coastal states and Union Territories (UTs) under the guidance of Dr Abhilash Likhi, Secretary, Department of Agriculture at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

As part of the NSPD 2024 celebrations, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Kerala along with Liquid Propulsion Systems Centres (LPSC) in Kerala and Karnataka, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) in Kerala, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Kerala and ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Tamil Nadu organized various events in Zone-7 covering Kerala, Lakshadweep and Mahe at VSSC in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Presented by the President of India National Science award –2024

On August 22, 2024, chairman Draupadi Murmu Presented National Science award (RVP) -2024The RVP is considered one of the highest honours in the field of science, technology and innovation in India, conferred at an award ceremony held at the Republic Pavilion of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

  • Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO)ISRO,,Chandrayaan 3 Teams was awarded with Science Team (VT) award For his contributions to space science and technology.
  • RVP is 2024 first edition It consists of 33 awards and these awards were presented to eminent scientists in 4 categories.
  • The awardees were presented with a Sanad (certificate) signed by the President of India and a medal.

Objective: The RVP recognizes exceptional contributions made by scientists, technologists and innovators, individually or as teams, in various fields of science, technology and technology-based innovation.

National Science award –2024,

Science Gemstones (VR) award The award recognises lifetime achievements and contributions in any field of science and technology.

In 2024, VR Awards presented to Professor Govindarajan padmanabhanPioneer of molecular biology and biotechnology research in India.

Science Mister (VS) award Recognizes distinguished contributions in any field of science and technology. In 2024, it is awarded to 13 Scientists,

Science Youth-Calmness Form Bhatnagar (VY-SSB) award It recognizes and encourages young scientists who make exceptional contributions in any field of science and technology.

  • It was given in 2024 18 Scientists For contributions ranging from studying the temperature rise of the Indian Ocean to the development of indigenous 5th generation (5G) technology.

Science Team (VT) award The award recognises a team of 3 or more scientists/researchers/innovators who have made outstanding research contributions in any field of science and technology.
